Michelle Whelan
Michelle Whelan has been playing professionally since she was 15 and in that time has performed around Australia in jazz, rock, funk, folk, gypsy, and classical settings. At 19 she was invited as a guest artist to the St Helens jazz festival alongside jazz greats such as Sydney’s Paul Furniss and Eric Holroyd. Since moving to Melbourne from regional Victoria in 2000, Michelle has enjoyed a range of performance opportunities including the Spiegeltent, Melbourne Club, Kitten Club, Bennett’s Lane, Melbourne Town Hall, Iwaki Auditorium, and The Big House. Some of her career highlights have included playing in concerts with Hugh Jackman, Deborah Conway, Kevin Hunt, Steve Hunter, Bob Sedegreen, Jo “Be Bop” Lane, and Steve Sedegreen. Michelle has been involved in several recording projects, including recording for films and as a session bassist on various folk/pop albums. She completed a Bachelor of Music Performance majoring in improvisation at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2004. |
